You couldn't have asked for much more from our filly Over The Bridge when winning cosily on debut at Bendigo on Sunday. Having been well supported into favouritism having trialed with plenty of promise including most recently behind Big Sky (Unbeaten Group winning colt) and Streisand (2026 Gr1 Blue Diamond winner). She went off $2.40 favourite, pleasing her supporters when breaking well to get a prominent position under a confident ride from Mark Zahra, who only had to pull her out and flick her behind the saddle a couple of times before she pulled away to win cosily, pricking her ears across th line in the sign of a filly that had a lot more under the bonnet. The time was exceptional being over 6 lengths under standard time, rolling off the fastest 800,600,400 and 200m of the race and the fastest 400m of meeting. She is surely going to be hot property upon release of a limited amount of shares in her going live this week for $155.
After the race Mark Zahra said 'Yeah, she's grown a lot and strengthened up a lot since then I trialled her, I liked her then, then I didn't see her again and I was surprised I was put down on her today, but, Ciaron said, you know, she's grown, We've got a big opinion, and she impressed me that day and she's improved a lot since then for sure. She's got a lot to learn. I mean, it might look straightforward out there, but she's very green still, like, yes, she's got a bit of maturing to do, but she jumped well, I was able to get the box seat and then, just when they were edging away from the fence, the little gap came and she was very quick, took it and had it won a fair way out, I was impressed. Yeah, for sure (we can raise the bar going forward).
She's obviously a lot better than today, so, I think she'll improve a lot, where she gets to this prep. I'm not sure, but I think next time she will be even better, but, yeah she's an exciting filly.'
It certainly sounds like Mark was impressed by his comments and I am sure he will be eager to get the ride on her wherever she goes next. Ciaron himself said 'We always thought she was smart and that is why we chose her for Unbridled Racing as one of the first horses. She's done everything right on her first run and pricked her ears at the line telling us there was a bit left in the tank. She's going to be very exciting for all the owners that go into her and we are looking forward to the rest of the season with her.'
Off the back of that impressive display, the plan is to head to the Scarborough Stakes Group 3 over 1200m on 27th September at Caulfield with the option of the 1400m Jim Moloney Stakes Listed which is on the same day. The plan after that, if all went well, would be to aim for a Thousand Guineas. It is without doubt that she is going to be a very popular filly so make sure you get in quick and buy your shares in Over The Bridge, no doubt she'll sell out fast!
