FAQ
Everything you need to know about racehorse ownership.
Getting Started
What is Unbridled Racing?
Unbridled Racing Club is a way to own a share in a racehorse trained by one of Australia's best stables — without needing to buy a whole horse.
Instead of one person paying six figures for a yearling, we split the ownership of each horse into a large number of small shares. You buy the number you want, you become a registered racehorse owner, and you share in whatever that horse goes on to achieve.
Behind the scenes, the structure is a registered managed investment scheme called Unbridled Horse Racing Scheme No 1. Unbridled Racing Pty Ltd (ACN 617 122 951) is the Manager — we find the horses, work with the trainer and run the club. Sire Custodians Ltd (ABN 45 005 088 371, AFSL 223671) is the Responsible Entity — the licensed, independent entity that legally holds the horses and operates the scheme.
What is racehorse syndication?
Syndication lets a group of people share ownership of a racehorse. Each member buys a percentage, and in return they share in the experience — stable visits, race day access, regular updates, and any prizemoney the horse earns. It's a way to be part of elite racing without carrying the full cost on your own.
What is a Microshare?
A micro-share is a unit in a managed investment scheme that owns the horse.
Standard racing ownership caps out at 20 shares per horse (5% each, under the Australian Rules of Racing) — too big an entry point for most people. By structuring ownership through a managed investment scheme, Unbridled can divide that further, offering micro-shares that each represent a fixed 0.01% interest in the horse.
It's the legal and financial structure that makes fractional, affordable ownership possible.
Are there any ongoing costs?
Your Micro-Share is a single upfront payment, no ongoing repayments during the investment term. That payment covers horse acquisition, bloodstock fee, insurance, training and vet expenses, Third Party Scheme fees, and the management fee for the duration of the horse's expected racing career (as set out in the PDS).
Each horse's offering page shows the exact breakdown of where your payment goes across these categories.
How are share prices calculated?
Every share price is built from the horse in front of you, not a flat rate.
It covers the cost of the horse, its training and care, insurance, running the scheme, and the Unbridled Lifecare Fund.
Every horse's page shows the breakdown before you buy.
How do I get started?
Browse our current offerings in the Marketplace, choose a horse that suits your budget and interests, and secure your share online. Once your identity is verified and payment is confirmed, you're officially part of the stable. From there you'll start receiving updates and invitations straight away.

What is a Managed Investment Scheme?
An unlisted unit trust which is registered with ASIC and accepts money from different Investors which is pooled and collectively used to; acquire & campaign the horse, and cover specific fees associated with the operation and management of the scheme. The Constitution and the Compliance Plan which detail how the scheme will be operated and monitored, have been lodged with ASIC.
Purchasing a Share
How much does a share cost?
Share prices vary from horse to horse depending on factors like bloodline, age, and the trainer's assessment of their potential. These factors all come into the value of a horse when purchased and that therefore determines the price of a share.
Are there ongoing fees after I purchase?
No,
Your share price includes a contribution to the horse's operating reserve, which covers training, veterinary care, farrier, transport, and race entries. There are no surprise bills or monthly invoices, everything is managed through the reserve so you can enjoy the experience without worrying about ongoing costs.
How many shares can I buy in a single horse?
As many as you like. We have no cap on how many shares each person can buy and there is also no minimum so you can start at one and build your way up or stay where you are.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept a range of payment methods to make purchasing as simple as possible. Full details are provided at checkout. If you have any questions about payment, the support team is happy to help. support@unbridledracing.com.au
What percentage of the horse do I own?
Every Unbridled micro-share represents 0.01% of the horse's total ownership interest, always the same, on every horse we offer.
That means each micro-share you hold entitles you to a fixed 0.01% stake, no matter which horse it's in.
Unbridled Racing may not own 100% of each horse that is available but we will only syndicate the micro shares to the value that we attain.
The scheme breaks ownership down in units and these are explained in each horses PDS and TMD (Please read before any purchases).
How do I buy a share?
Create an account, pick your horse, and pay. It all happens online and takes a few minutes.
You'll read the PDS for that horse and verify your ID before your shares are issued.
How many horses can I buy into?
As many as you like. Each horse is offered separately, so you apply for each one you want.
What happens once I make a purchase?
Once your purchase is complete, you will get a confrmation email from us, congratulating you on ownership with Unbridled Racing. You will then see your horse in 'my horses' in your dashboard.
Then all you do is sit back and enjoy the race days, updates and events that we put on for you.
The Ownership Experience
What updates will I receive about my horse?
Owners receive regular updates including training reports, race plans, veterinary summaries, and behind-the-scenes content from the stable. Updates are shared through the Unbridled Racing app and email so you're always in the loop on how your horse is progressing.
Can I visit my horse at the stable?
Absolutely. Unbridled Racing organises stable visits and open mornings where owners can meet their horses, watch trackwork, and see the operation up close. Stable visits are coordinated to ensure the safety of both visitors and horses, so keep an eye on the app for upcoming dates.
What events do Unbridled Racing put on?
We put on events all year round, stable visits and gallop mornings, race day watch-alongs, sales tours, and the big race day parties, including our Melbourne Cup Calcutta.
The events everyone wants an invite to.
Do owners get to help name horses?
When a new unraced horse joins the stable, we love getting owners involved in the naming process. Naming contests are run through the app, giving you the chance to submit and vote on names. It's one of the most popular parts of early ownership — there's something special about hearing a name you chose called by the race caller.
Do I get a say in how the horse is managed?
Training decisions, race selections, and day-to-day management are handled by Ciaron Maher Racing's expert team. This means your horse is always in the best possible hands. As an owner, you'll be kept informed about every decision — you just don't need to worry about making them.
How are horses selected for the stable?
Every horse offered through Unbridled Racing goes through a rigorous selection process led by Ciaron Maher Racing's team. This includes physical inspections, pedigree analysis, veterinary assessments, and biomechanical evaluation. Only horses that meet the stable's standards make it to the Marketplace.
Where will my horse be trained?
Your horse will be trained at one of Ciaron Maher Racing's state-of-the-art facilities. The training location is chosen based on what best suits the horse's development and racing goals. Each listing specifies where the horse is currently based, and the team will keep you informed if that changes as the horse's career progresses.
How does the team use sports science and data?
Ciaron Maher Racing employs a dedicated sports science and data team that works alongside trainers to optimise every horse's preparation. This includes GPS tracking during training, biomechanical analysis, and a proprietary database that informs race planning and scheduling. It's one of the ways the stable stays at the forefront of modern racing.
Can I sell or transfer my share?
If your circumstances change, the team can help facilitate the sale or transfer of your share. Reach out through the app or contact support to discuss your options. The process is straightforward, and the team will guide you through each step.

What happens when my horse retires?
Horse welfare is a priority at Unbridled Racing which is why we set up Unbridled's Lifecare Fund. The Lifecare fund donates a portion of every share sold, setting it aside for the horse it belongs to, building a dedicated fund that follows them through their racing career. When that horse retires, the fund is drawn on to cover their transition: rehoming into a trusted post-racing home, and any rehabilitation needed for injuries sustained along the way.
Can my horse move facilities through its racing career?
Yes.
Horses may move to different bases. If the horse is targeting a race in a different state from where they are stabled, they will move there and these race planning decisions are made by the expert team at Ciaron Maher Racing to ensure your horse has the best chance of winning.
Race Day
Can I attend race days as an owner?
Yes! Being there on race day is one of the best parts of ownership. When your horse is running, you'll receive an invitation along with details on accessing owner areas at the track. There's nothing like cheering your horse home from the mounting yard or members' area.
Race day ticketing and mounting yard access is limited, so where numbers are tight we'll run a ballot to keep it fair.
Do owners get access to the mounting yard or winner's circle?
In most cases, yes. Tracks across Australia have been very supportive of syndicate owners, and we work to arrange mounting yard and winner's circle access wherever possible. For bigger race days or restricted events, we coordinate passes through a ballot to make sure it's fair.
We also get access to regular raceday tickets and those will be balloted out accordingly so that as many owners as possible can attend the race days with your horses.
How do I find out when my horse is racing?
You'll receive a notification through the Unbridled Racing app whenever your horse is entered or accepted to race. Notifications include the race meeting, time, distance, and any relevant details so you can plan your day, whether you're heading to the track or watching from home.
How are prizemoney earnings distributed?
If your horse earns prize money, it's distributed to owners in proportion to their share into their Unbridled wallet. On the rare occasion the operating reserve runs low, a portion of prize money may be used to top it back up before distribution.
How does the Race Day Ballot work?
The Race day ballot is completed post acceptances when we know how many tickets and mounting yard passes that we will have.
After this, we then draw out who will receive each ticket. The number of entries you have into this ballot is based upon the shares that you own in that horse along with increased chances for those who haven't been racing recently.
Every time you miss out on tickets, your chance increases.
What silks will my horse run in?
Your silks will run in our own Unbridled Racing Silks on every race day.
We can't wait to see you cheer them on during the big race days!
